1985

I think these next 3 years were very special. At this time Dad,
"Buster" was still healthy and had the best connections to the "STARS."
I, Larry Bonoff, had come into my own making a name in booking country music artists. Those who know me I am, was, and forever will be lost in the 60's; many concerts during these years reflected my
taste.

Enjoy the memories with me!

An Evening With Johnny Cash
August 11

I got an email from a long time WMT and Johnny Cash Fan - We spoke via emails and Mike gave me
permission to post it - It made me smile and helps to remind me what an impact the "Tent" had.....

Subject: Johnny Cash August 11, 1985
Larry,

I grew up in Rhode Island and lived there until I was 21 years of age.  I
moved off to attend school in Tennessee and Graduate School in Louisiana .  I
now reside in Louisiana
When I lived in Warwick , Rhode Island the Warwick Musical Theatre was the
center of the Universe for me.  I went to every concert I could.  I worked
at Del 's Lemonade to fund my addiction.  The Warwick Musical Theatre is such
a huge part of my youth and warmest memories.
I actually met you from time to time as I would ride my bike to the theatre
early to see the action of the musicians unload their equipment.  I was a
fifteen year old kid who just loved music and the Warwick Musical Theatre
was my venue to experience that.
On August 11, 1985, Johnny Cash came to the theatre.  I read that he was
coming in the paper so I wrote Johnny Cash's people to see if I could get a
chance to meet him.  He had always been my favorite and he was actually
coming to Warwick and the Warwick Musical Theatre to boot.  Lou Robin
(Johnny Cash's Manager) sent me a pass.  I brought it to you the afternoon
of the show.  You were in a Mercedes and you rolled the window down and read
my backstage pass and told me to hold on to it and before the show you would
bring me to meet Johnny Cash.  Before the show you brought me, a 15 year old
kid who thought the world of Johnny Cash backstage to meet him.  You also
took a picture of him and I in that trailer-like backstage area.  That picture hangs in my office today.
Just a word of thanks and appreciation.  I'm not sure if I ever thanked you
for that.  I was kind of excited.  That night Johnny Cash also gave me his
harmonica's after playing Orange Blossom Special on stage.  I was on the
fifth row and he called me up.  I shook his hand and put those special
harmonica's in my pocket and went home.
That was a great night in my life.  I am also thankful that you took that
picture of me and the Man in Black.
If you would like the picture for your collection or just to view it, I would be glad to send it to you.
Thanks again.  I know this is a random e-mail but I was fooling around on
the computer and came across the history of the theatre and I thought I
would try to convey one of my experiences of the grand ole Warwick Musical Theatre.
Sincerely,
Michael Stravato
